ORENDT, John
Fought Van Cams

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I'm John Orendt Candidate for District 30, Upper Kalihi. I recently debated Democratic Candidate Dennis Arakaki at Olelo studios.  I hope you saw it. If not it would be my pleasure to personally deliver a copy to you. Just call me on my cell phone 372-1570.

I was surprised that in the debate Mr. Arakaki actually stated that education, and the economy of district 30 were in a dismal state. Yet, Mr. Arakaki and the Democratic Party have represented your community for 16 years.  It's time for a change, for the better.

Have you seen the FOUGHT VAN CAMS  signs in our district?  I'm fighting for your freedom. As a lobbyist, I fought to protect our freedoms which the unconstitutional Traffic Cameras violated. As a result of my speech to the Kalihi Valley neighborhood board, A measure was raised, and passed unanimously to remove the hated Talivans. I also testified at the Hawaii State Capital to our legislators at many committee hearings  fighting for our freedom on many issues.

See my website for complete details. www.libertarianpartyofhawaii.org Also on my website you will find a Summary of Lobbying Efforts, with links to my actual testimony. You will also find the Dismal voting record of Dennis Arakaki, Dennis was awarded an F by Paychecks Hawaii, and Small Business Hawaii. An F is the lowest possible score and is defined as an anti-business advocate. Dennis working in conjunction with his Democratic comrades also earned the State of Hawaii the dubious distinction of placing 50 out of 51 in friendliness towards small business. Nevada rated #1 and only Washington DC rated lower than Hawaii. Small businesses provide most of the job growth in the USA. So if you or someone you know has been laid off recently, Dennis is the guy to thank. I want to point out that I have met Mr. Arakaki and he is a nice compassionate caring guy. However, none of that really matters if his voting record is putting you and your loved ones out of a job.

In contrast, I am the most  pro business candidate in Hawaii. So if you want the economy to improve, if you want more control over your own money then Vote for me, John Orendt. I'm here to help you, help yourself.

In regard to taxes, I think the taxes in Hawaii are way too high, it seems every which way you turn there is another tax or fee. Do you know why there is such a large variety of taxes? Well, I'll let you in on a little secret. This is a classic divide and conquer technique. As long as various taxes are raised one a a time, there is never a unified voice to speak out against the tax increase. Whereas, let us imagine that there was only a flat income tax and no other taxes or fees at all. In this scenario if lawmakers raised the tax it would affect everybody and the great people of Hawaii would shout out in a unified protest against it. Think about it, just where exactly do you draw the line, between theft and taxation?

I have signed the "Americans for Tax Reform" pledge to NOT raise taxes. Has Mr. Arakaki done the same?

Due to my longtime interest in math and philosophy, I have an integrated understanding of ethics, politics, and economics. As an engineer I have many years experience applying theory to solving real world practical problems.

You may be curious about the taller candidate.

I was born in Cleveland, Ohio to German parents. My father passed away two years ago and my mom is currently recovering from minor surgery. Cancer took my wife 12 years ago, and a motorcycle accident took my older brother  30 years ago. On the brighter side I have an adorable niece and a handsome nephew and two lovely sisters. Like most people I've gone through hard times and good times. I feel compassion for my friends who have lost their jobs in these bad economic times. I try to help them out as best I can with my limited resources.

It makes me angry to see our tax money squandered and misappropriated  for improper functions of government like the Hawaii Tourist Authority, a government department, that should not even exist. A great crime is committed by lawmakers when the government lays heavy taxes on one sector of the economy to provide corporate welfare for others.  Government redistribution of wealth violates the Constitution and must stop.

A coercive government becomes the role model for a coercive society. Do we want to raise our children to be bullies and/or tax collectors? I don't think so. We want great education at a good price with lower taxes. Capitalism is the solution. Did you know that the ratio of administrators to students is 11 times higher at public schools compared to private schools? This dreadful waste of your money  must stop!

Therefore, government schools must be put on an even competitive playing field with private schools.  I advocate tax credits for anyone who takes their children out of public schools. For the poorer families in our state, I will personally donate my tax credits for the benefit of your children and I'm sure there are many others who will follow my lead. Competition among schools will improve the quality and safety of education dramatically for both public and private schools. A school must educate our children properly or go out of business.

The great economist Adam Smith wrote that a free society operates as if "an invisible hand" directs people's actions in such a way as to serve the interest of the whole society.

In the marketplace, people tend to be well mannered even if they hate you. The profit motive can even overcome racism, sexism,  and other prejudices. Even the most racist businessman eventually realizes on some level that "I might hate the color of their skin, but I love the color of their money."

"If you came in to lots of money say you won the lottery and you wanted to help the poor. Would you give your money to the Department of Health and Human Services, or to your favorite charity?" You can almost see the light bulb come on in someone's head. No one ever proposes to donate a windfall to the government.
