THE VISION...
Aloha,
Im running for State Representative of the 30th District Seat in Kalihi Valley. As a Libertarian, I believe free people can make better lives for themselves. I think that a limited government governs best. My basic platform rests on removing governmental interference from our personal lives and from commerce and free trade. These are the same principles upon which America was founded, and I dont think there has been a better idea since.
Libertarians are a party of principles. This means we can address any issue from a principled place, rather than an "emotional" or fear based position. We interpret the U.S. Constitution literally. I will insist that no future bill be written without full constitutional correctness. If we enforce the powers of our constitution we will automatically end most special interest programs thus allowing the demise of special interest lobbyists! Churches and other humanitarian organizations help people in need much more effectively than special interest programs mismanaged by unaccountable government bureaucrats.
VOTE FOR ME, JOHN ORENDT, and I will promise only one thing: I will remain steadfast and true to the principles our country was founded on.
No New Taxes
Downsizing is the answer to swollen government. Tax money is what feeds the frenzy of bloated government.
Reducing Bureaucracy and Red Tape
Hawaii is awash with too much government and too much control by special interests that buy influence. Lets privatize or eliminate bloated government to reduce taxes and improve services.
I support capitalism. Contrast, the central principle of Marxism is: To every man according to his needs, from every man according to his ability. For capitalism it is: To every man according to his ability, from every man according to his desire to trade. Under Marxism a man has no motivation to be productive since it only results in more being taken from him. On the other hand Capitalism motivates man to be productive and harvest the fruit of his labor.
Better Education
I support the dismantling of the current monopoly style school system. Private or community based schools get better results for much less money. Let parents and the private sector have a choice in education. Having the government run the schools is like having the fox guard the hen house. Our childrens education is much too important to be relegated to a government institution.
End the Drug War: Create Drug Peace
Prohibition didnt work in the 20s and its not working now. It only drives up prices, which encourages production and takes away citizens rights to peace and tranquility. It also promotes unhealthy and dangerous production techniques. Eliminating the criminal element is the idea here. Lets look seriously at all our victimless crime laws.
Affordable Housing
I see these in the $50-95,000 range. We can reduce homelessness and lower the high cost of housing by removing restrictions on owner-builders who want to do it themselves.
Conserve Energy
Hawaii has a treasure of natural energy. Sun and wind abound, and biomass could be produced through energy farming. Lets harness these instead of relying on a dubious supply of fossil fuels. By conserving energy, we promote a comfortable lifestyle and a clean environment.
Non-Aggression
As a libertarian, I have taken an oath of non-coercion. Libertarians feel that our government should be held to that principle as well. No coercion is the principle here. A coercive government becomes the role model for a coercive society. Do we want to raise our children to be bullies and/or tax collectors? Promote reasoning.
How to Help
Please help me create a more compassionate earthwise vision of our part of paradise. Donations gratefully accepted. Mahalo!
